The UTA Libraries FabLab is a unique resource that allows students to unleash their creativity in various ways, turning ideas into reality.

FabLab is located on the first floor of the UTA Central Library and provides a range of services to students. You can utilize our 3D printers to design and create prototypes of your ideas.

The Libraries' high-tech laser cutters offer precise wood, plastic and fabric cutting. Additionally, there is a dedicated area for fabrics where you can sew, embroider and create textiles. A shop room with various tools for working with wood and metal is also available.

Students can experiment with three different types of 3D printers in our 3D printing area. These printers include ABS printers, producing rigid plastic figures in 3D; Ninja Flex 3D printers, creating slightly soft and flexible prints; and PLA printers, offering biodegradable hard plastic prints. Building your models using our 3D printers costs just 5 cents per gram.

For laser cutting, we have two advanced machines: the Thunder Laser Machine, a new, effective and efficient laser cutter for precise cutting and engraving, and the Epilogue Machine, a high-quality engraving machine for intricate designs and details.

Perla Vargas, FabLab Technician, stated that this maker space opens up many avenues of creativity with a variety of tools and resources readily available.

"We have the Direct-to-Garment system for fabric printing, allowing you to print directly onto T-shirts and other garments," Perla said. "We have 2 CNC machines in the textile and fabric section. These machines come in two types: equipped with 10 needles and six needles. Additionally, we have sewing machines, two Sergers for overlocking stitches, and a variety of threads available in different colors."

Perla stated that with these resources, you can create beautifully embroidered designs on clothes, plush toys, zipper pouches and many other items.

The textile and fabric area is available for just $1 per hour, including all materials and the assistance of our knowledgeable staff.

Students must complete general safety training before using the FabLab's Shop Room. Once completed, they can receive training on the specific equipment they wish to use. Students can create 2D or 3D objects in this room using wood and metal. Additionally, one-on-one consultations are available for assistance.

To get started, bring your Mav ID and load up your Mav Money to cover the cost of materials. Don't worry if you're new to all this. The Libraries' staff is here to guide you every step of the way. They'll help you learn how to use the equipment and software.

"The best part is that using the FabLab is free, aside from the cost of consumable materials," Perla said. "Bring your materials and you're good to go; our staff is always available to answer questions and assist with any challenges. Just look for their black aprons and name tags."

Fab Lab offers various workshops, including 3D printing, glass printing, jewelry making and sewing. In February, they will host two printmaking events where students can create and keep their work for free.

Check out the library events page to stay updated on upcoming workshops, events and activities.

By attending events, you'll learn how to make these fantastic creations and have a chance to understand the science behind them. The events and workshops will not only enhance your skills but also improve your knowledge. We can't wait to see what you come up with as you explore what the FabLab offers.
